Wicked
As someone who saw Wicked on Broadway, I felt the same way watching this film as I did when I saw the curtain rise that day, only elevated. This was the ultimate love letter to Broadway and the original production of Wicked. I wore a smile a mile wide the entire film. This movie was stunning perfection. I was a doubter for some of the castings originally, but there is not a single person I would recast, especially Ariana and Cynthia, who were both a revelation. They were born to play Glinda and Elphaba respectively. I’ve never broken out into happy tears multiple times watching a movie, but the two’s clear bond and sisterhood made me sob. I now understand why they were so touched in every interview. I was moved and I didn’t even live it. Jonathan Bailey was also a standout. The music was awe-inspiring. The production design was flawless. This is how you adapt a musical with love and care. Bravo Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande. Bravo John Chu. If there is justice in the world, you will reap your rewards at the Oscars.
