A Clockwork Orange
would love to shove an orange up alex's ass.
jokes aside, holy shit this is.. surprisingly entertaining. and good. an absolute masterpiece, both from a narrative and pacing point of view. definitely stanley kubrick's opus magnum.
it portrays violence as something immature, it's got the whole "if these are the good guys then I'm glad I'm not one of them" thing throughout the film. the film also teaches how you can never avoid or let go the consequences of your horrible actions in the past, no matter how much "change" you've convinced yourself to be, and the actions will soon come crawling back to you. it also plays a heavy critique on society that thrives on control, where men and boys are raised to suppress, dominate, conquer and punished when that conditioning erupts into something feral, hence the title "clockwork orange" refers to the forced mechanization of a natural human being. the ending is grand irony, showing how alex is "cured" from the feeling of disgust for his passion of violence and sex, that he'll continue his horrible actions once again. i love how the beginning of the movie has this really weird/cool dystopian aesthetic look that sets it apart. it looks like Escape From New York meets Duran Duran, wished they've kept the aesthetic throughout the film. the houses design too, it is so eccentric and whimsical, I love it. i think the nadsat slang is such a unique charm to film (even though i had to google 80% of it).
i dont think ppl should refer this movie as a glorification of violence and puritanical persuasion, but I don't condone people to glorify it either.. the edgy and explicit parts of the film serves it's own purpose, and I think they did it quite well and rather tamed.. overall, it's no shock that this is a cult classic. personally, i really love it. 100% recommended if you can handle the subjects matter.
