Dune: Part Two
Saw in IMAX @ a fan first screening. Surrounded by chatty and fidgety people, it still easily to get a 5 star rating. (If you know me well enough, you know that’s crazy)
Dune part two is truly epic cinema. Everyone involved in making this was SO deep in their bag. I love the story of the original 6 Dune books, and this is just so vast and immense that it truly does that first one justice.
The lord of the rings comparisons are well deserved, not as a 1:1 in tone or style (at all) but in that sense of awe and grandeur. You can tell this is a continuation of that same love and respect for the source material that made the first Dune great, and it’s another reminder of some of the heinous and blasphemous failures at other literary adaptations on screen in recent memory. This quality and respect should be the goal and/or standard.
The entire cast is captivating, the directing is near flawless, the cinematography is jaw dropping, and the music is as powerful as Hans has done in a while.
It could have been 3 and a half hours.
My only, only complaint is some of the dialogue is on the nose, but in a world where convoluted webs of prophecy and war twist the fates of entire worlds, sometimes clarity is more important lol.
