Train Dreams

Absolutely stunning. Meticulous, moving, and beautiful. Joel gives his best work here (and he is one of my sleeper actors) & William Macy might have one of the best side character performances of the year. Everyone is good in this, and everything on a technical level worked- even the abnormal frame rate & shutter speed decisions. Narration is good for some moments, but frustrating for others. The narration alone has me on the line between 4.5 and 5, but i was watching this on the airport floor and i was still moved very deeply, so i think i gotta give it the 5. Y’all are comparing this to Life of Chuck but that’s not fair because this is WAY better 🤠 Speaking of which, i think we should open up the comparison that what the Third Reich was to books, Netflix is to movies. To only put this on enough screens to secure some sort of award contention and then just let the film die IS AN ABOMINATION TO THE ARTS. Makes me so angry. Great film.
