Before Midnight
I don’t know how to feel… I can’t believe it’s over. I want more of this, and especially more of Céline.
I didn’t know what to expect going in, but my god, this was intense. The hotel room fight had me completely locked in, it felt so real at times, almost like eavesdropping on a private moment. I’ve never been married or in such a long relationship myself, but I love that the film shows the reality of two people together for years, how even with true love, it can still be difficult.
As much as I adore this movie (and the other two), Richard’s writing on gender and social issues can be borderline infuriating to listen to. But even then, it never pushed me away, it lowkey just made me more invested in the story and the characters.
I get now why this trilogy is so beloved. I’m so glad it exists, but I can’t help feeling sad that it ends here. Their dynamic is so magnetic that I could’ve watched them forever. Céline is one of my favorite characters ever, I could watch Julie Delpy for hours on end !!
