Sing Sing
oh man this was so perfect. so tender and introspective and heartfelt. probably one of the most moving films i have ever seen. this movie touches on some of the most difficult aspects of both the political and the personal in the most gentle way possible. It made a statement about violence and regret, a critique of the prison system, loss and apathy. And it managed to do all of this without subjugating any of the characters to an arc of suffering. We are moved through their friendship and connections and self expression, not through their pain. It was such a beautiful and humanizing way to give a voice to those are rarely given one.
A reminder of why the arts are important might be needed now more than ever, and seeing a story where theatre is used as a mode for human connection and camaraderie as well as self discovery is so perfect!
