Adolescence
Holy shit someone give that kid an Oscar
It goes without saying that acting is definitely the strongest aspect of this project. I mean, every single person delivers a literally Oscar-worthy performance. So I won't talk much about it, as it has already been discussed many, many times before. The cinematography was ridiculous. Whoever came up with the one-shot idea was on point. Compared to similar movies, this one didn't get boring or hard to keep up with, which I think is a great success when we are talking about that sort of camera work. Dialogues were great as well, as they felt natural and humanlike rather than the typical interrogation scenes we often see in films.
But it's not all great. The fact that acting and dialogues are the main talking points of this show makes other aspects, like pacing, a bit left behind. For example, the second and last episodes felt longer and harder to watch compared to the first and third ones. The third episode was one of the greatest acting performances I have ever seen, but when you pair it with the previous and next episodes, the uneven quality becomes very visible. The detective's storyline was definitely out of place and sort of jammed in where it didn't need to be. Last episode was super slow-paced and kind of uninteresting, given the fact that we already knew what happened to Owen's character. Sure, Stephen Graham kills his role and has one of the greatest performances of his career, but still, another hour was, for me, a bit too much.
Overall it was an insane display of acting range and writing paired with awesome camerawork. Other than that, it's not a masterpiece, but you should definitely give it a watch.
