Before Sunrise
This is the most romantic and adorable 2-hour conversation I have ever seen, and I loved every single second of it.
Every single major scene is as close to romantic perfection as it gets. Ferris wheel kiss, listening in a booth scene, pretend call to friends conversation, and last awkward, hard to leave goodbye.
Celine looks absolutely stunning. I completely understand why Jesse wanted to kiss her so badly in the Ferris wheel cabin. Ethan and Julie do such an amazing job. Their flirting, kissing, smiling, and awkward glances look so natural. Their on-screen chemistry made this already charming and cozy movie even more lovely.
There were so many ideas and concepts of love hidden behind what seems like an average conversation between two people on a date. I think what made this movie so great is how simple, raw, and relaxed the whole dynamic was. There aren’t any grand romantic gestures, they’re just out on a date exploring the city, yet through their dialogue, we can clearly sense the romantic tension between them. The dialogues and quotes are just indescribably beautiful.
The only downside I would point out is the middle part of the movie. Some of the topics they were discussing whilst walking in the streets were super brushed over and kind of superficial. I understand what the director's vision was, but it still felt forced and unnecessary.
The ending was so perfect as well, so realistic. Completely giving up their promise of no contact and immediately setting a date for a meetup is the only way this movie could have ended. It naturally set up a good premise for the next movie. This film just radiates good vibes until, like the last 5 minutes, so go watch it, definitely worth every second.
