Phantom Thread
A tortured genius with an obsession for perfection and routine. Enters Alma, who intends to subvert the equilibrium of love. A film about balance of power and how both the artist and his muse tend to shape the relationship dynamic and often go to great lengths to maintain the status quo.
“there’s an air of quiet death in this house and I do not like the way it smells” he says greatly foreshadowing a change or a disruption in his routine right before he knowingly eats the poisoned mushroom, hence giving up control to the muse and finally surrenders his power.
Daniel Day-Lewis delivers one of his best performances yet which was his last just before retirement and Paul Thomas Anderson’s writing and directing made this film one of my absolute favorite. It’s a slow-burn psychological drama through an artistic lens, a romantic film in an unconventional way.
