Barbie
the movie was so great and so fun. and colorful. and happy and fun and emotional and fun and silly and sparkle and pink and glitter!
but there was an old couple next to us that made the experience ten times better. they were completely locked into the movie. like locked in locked in. laughing at every joke. in awe with the bright colors and music. and when the movie ended, they started talking to us on the way out.
they told us about how they just watched oppenheimer because the husband was a retired history teacher. and that the only reason why they were watching barbie right after was because he made a promise to his wife to watch barbie with her.🥹
the old lady was so kind and nice too. she was talking abt how watching barbie made her feel younger again. and how it brought back memories of wanting a barbie as a kid. it brought back memories of watching her daughter open her first barbie as a birthday present. then again when she got her granddaughter a barbie for her birthday. then again again when she got her other granddaughter a barbie for christmas.
and her husband started talking abt how going out to see oppenheimer and barbie in a movie theater made them feel younger again because they used to always go to the movies with their kids and their grandkids until they all grew up and they just haven’t been going to the movies since.
then the fucking sweet old lady asked my friend if she used to play with barbies. she said yeah then the old lady told her to remember those memories because when we get to their age those small parts of childhood will be the things that will make us feel young again.
i’ve never in my life have ever left the theater in such a fucked up state. thank you old people.thank you barbie.
