Babylon
This is La La Land for people who love movies instead of music.
- I’ve just got three words: Margot FUCKING Robbie
- I’ve just got three words vol. 2: Brad FUCKING Pitt
- I’ve just got three words vol. 3: Diego FUCKING Calva
- Jesus christ this is an amazing movie. I don’t even know where to begin.
- The movie is edited absolutely beautifully. For certain scenes they choose to cut for comedic effect, while others go for dramatic effect. And sure that’s done in plenty of other movies, but it’s done so damn well here. One of my favourite parts of the movie is during the chaotic filming of all the different movies out in the middle of the desert and almost every cut jumps forward in time bit by bit, making that specific part of the movie feel extremely stressed and tense. Another absolutely perfectly edited part of the movie is the first party we see. The use of long shots perfectly show the chaotic nature of the party as well as ensuring that not a single part of the chaos goes unnoticed. The final part of the movie which I would call a favourite is the shooting of LaRoy’s first talkie. The idea of having the audience go along with the entire crew as they’re trying to film the scene, without having us skip ahead is great as it allows us to get frustrated along with the crew for each shot that fails, until finally, the scene is perfect. Ensue absolute bliss.
- The music is absolutely terrific in this movie. But I mean it’s a Chazelle movie so of course the music’ll be great.
- I don’t think there was a single bad performance in this movie.
- This is the movie that made me get a crush on Margot Robbie. Jesus H Christ she’s terrific in this.
- The ending was absolutely phenomenal. I think it’s great that we didn’t get to know what happened to LaRoy, and her exit from the movie was absolutely beautiful. Manuel’s “re-discovery” of cinema was beautiful. Especially the parts where he sees events from his own life recreated as a movie and he breaks down. Absolutely beautiful.
- I love that I completely forgot about Tobey Maguire being in this. I love his little goblin man performance. Tobey Maguire is a top tier creppy little goblin man.
