Aftersun
This is one of those quiet movies i’d watch on a quiet day. To be honest I didn’t really understand the ending. I knew somthing was gonna happen but I didn’t know when and when nothing happened I was confused. I know that the dad is going through somthing and the daughter doesn’t know. Either way I just wanna explain why I’d give this a 5/5, it’s such a simple story of a trip of the dad and the daughter. They hardly did anything big, they had a few adventures but that was almost it. I also want to mention the use of cameras, the quality of it and the noise when it zooms is so nostalgic, my parents also used cameras and i’m sure almost everyone’s has. The colours through it and the terrible framing is so real. I don’t know how to explain it, it was definitely somthing. You would expect there to be more after the daughter had left, maybe a note or a small clip of the father but nope. Once the daughter left, the camera did too. I’d also want to mention the scene after she sung on stage trying to encourage her dad to come and sing along but he refused, after that she went beside him and said to stop saying he would pay somthing for her when she knows he doesn’t have the money. It’s insane cause i’ve definitely said that to my mom before, from experience I can tell how much that hurt to hear. I felt bad for the dad after that scene, especially since she just sat there with no expression and didn’t look at him while he sat there looking at her trying to make up for his refusal and trying to give his daughter whatever she wants. Idk this movie was somewhat redeeming yet sad. One more thing, this just made me wonder why my parents stop using cameras? It wasn’t until around 2012 did my parents stop using cameras and it wasn’t because of phones or anything like that since there was phones before 2012. I also want to know what was the last thing they filmed. Might get on that….anyways, a great and yet another amazing movie by a24.
