WARNING: This review contains spoilers for Dune.
The Bad: I feel like the dream sequences just repeated the same information to us over and over and after the third or fourth time I found myself checking out.
The Good: I didn't finish the book in time for the film so maybe my enjoyment of the film will alter once I finish the book or at least the part of the book that this film adapts but man was this film wonderful. The cast is too big to name all of the great performances but there isn't a badly played role big or small in this film. The scale and purportion of this movie is grand and feels like an event primarily because of the amazing cinematography by Greig Frasier where every shot is composed beautifully. The man, the myth, the legend, Hans Zimmer composed a score that really immerses you in the world of Arakis and it sounds like music that would actually exist in that world. Speaking of immersion, I was completely sucked into this world and I invested in everything that was happening in the world. Denis Villeneuve is an amazing director with some spectacular films like Arrival and Blade Runner 2049 under his belt and Dune is some of his best work. Please go see this in theaters so we can get Part Two.
