Shrek 2
Shrek 2 (2004)
Directed by Conrad Vernon, Andrew Adamson, and Kelly Asbury
Starring Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, Cameron Diaz, Antonio Banderas, Rupert Everett, and Jennifer Saunders.
Story: Shrek 2 follows Shrek and Fiona after their honeymoon when they're called to Far Far Away to meet Fiona's parents.
The Bad: When it comes to comedy, I'd say that Shrek is slightly better than Shrek 2. Not that Shrek 2 isn't funny but I just thought the first one was slightly funnier.
The Good: Where Shrek has the upper hand in its comedy, Shrek 2 takes the cake for emotional depth. The message behind Shrek 2 is not really talked about all that much. (exept for Schaffrillas Productions on YouTube. I heavily recommend his video on Shrek 2) Shrek 2 is a story about Shrek realizing that he is enough for Fiona and that he doesn't need to change the essence of who he is for her. This uses one of my favorite story telling techniques, where you take a real situation and tell it in a fantastical way. Also Antonio Banderas as Puss In Boots is amazing, although he was introduced in the second film, he will always be one of the most iconic characters. This movie is exactly what a sequel should be, it expands on the world it exists in, it introduces new and memorable characters, and it left a lasting impact on the franchise its in. Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, and Cameron Diaz all return as their characters and all do great. And Jennifer Saunders as Fairy Godmother is perfect, easily my favorite antagonist in the Shrek franchise.
