Citizen Kane
In this "declaration of war against traditional cinema," Orson Welles directs with impeccable and constantly innovative techniques. He utilizes extraordinary depth of field and flashbacks that allow us to explore the different facets of Charles Kane from various perspectives.
The story begins with Rosebud, something Kane could never possess, which is represented as the name of a sled. However, what Kane truly never had was a relationship with his mother, who abandoned him when he was still a child. Rosebud, therefore, represents his deepest wound, from which his character developed, and in the final scene, it reveals the full vulnerability of his inner self.
