Watched again in IMAX.
It’s really hard not to get emotional about a movie like this. I remember going to see Hereditary with my Mom back in 2018 and having a physical reaction to the things I was seeing. What a thrilling feeling to be apart of a world for a minute and to let it consume you. I’ve had a couple of moments like that in my life. Toy Story 3 in Mexico when I was 7. Birdman & Gone Girl when I was 11. The Revenant when I was 13. Hereditary at 15. May December at 19. The Sweet East at 20. God do I live for those moments. Not because the movie is perfect or that it doesn’t have flaws, but because it turns you inside out exposes you for a bit and I think everyone needs a little of that once in a while. At least for me, it’s like a hard reset for the brain. I’ll keep looking for those moments. That’s why I’ll go to a 10:30PM screening in downtown San Francisco, getting home at 2AM on a crowded 7 bus, just to see a witch get torn apart by a bunch of screaming children on the biggest projector imaginable. It’s really is like no other feeling.
