Superman Returns
Pretty good movie. I love the theme, tone and era it’s set in. It is a very full and complete movie that stays very consistent with its tone. The theme and music is great and feels old and retro while modern. It shifts from dark and gloomy to happy and upbeat very well, which is helped by utilizing the music and theme. It’s a weirdly calming movie in a very odd way. It is fun, the story is well, as it does not reboot and do a whole origin, but instead just as eases you in. But, while it does everything very well, in terms of hype and excitement it does not go super high or super low and just is constantly in a middle ground, which makes it feel a bit muted and full, which is calming, but can get pretty stale at times. Another big issue was the relationship between Clark, Lois, her son and her husband. It was very uncomfortable and bothered me a lot, especially by the end, where it paints itself into a corner. As well as Lois’s parenting and her character's actions in general. It was a very Clark Kent focused movie with Superman being decently balanced, but this came at the cost of only having one small (in length) interaction with Lex Luther, as well as a sense of his story being unresolved. Overall, a good movie.
