Thief
Wanted to watch this for ages and it finally came to Amazon Prime a few days ago
An absolutely amazing Character study and unreal Heist Film. Frank is such a brilliant character, the epitome of a professional and a man who takes immense pride in his work, but who suffers from a fragile temperament/ego and doesn’t take shit from anyone. holding a manifest destiny of leaving his life as a career criminal behind in order to live a peaceful life with a loving family, a dream that he realises is impossible for him to achieve at the end of the film as he goes on his revenge mission. And James Caan preforms the role perfectly he is a fantastic leading man. The actual Heist scenes are brilliant as-well, visually stunning isn’t even the word you’ve actually just got to watch it to get it, so many close up shots of the machinery and sensory overloads of sparks, flames and smoke, and the score of spacious synth waves in the background is absolutely beautiful. Such an unbelievably tense film at times as well such as the shootout between the mob boss and Frank at the end.
This is absolutely amazing and as far as Michael Mann goes I enjoyed this a lot more than I did Heat which is another great film, it’s crazy that this is one of the first films he ever made. Underrated gem go watch this before it disappears from streaming again.
