The Fall
One of my new all-time favorites.
You can feel the love and passion that went into making this. I don’t think I’ve ever seen cinematography so breathtaking, each frame looks like a painting, you truly cannot look away for a second, and it’s paired with flawless costume design. Visually, it’s almost overwhelming in its beauty, so overindulgent at times that it could be easy to overlook the heart of the film. The Fall is more than just visual spectacle. It’s a love letter to storytelling itself, and to the ways different people interpret and reimagine the world around them.
The story unfolds in layers that come together in an imperfectly perfect way. Roy never intended to have such a deep impact on Alexandria, yet her imagination roamed free and bold, filling in the emotional gaps of his broken narrative with her own innocence and vision. The dynamic between them of adult pain and childlike wonder makes the film feel so alive.
A movie like this is so important, especially now, when Hollywood often feels dominated by formula and franchise. What director Tarsem Singh achieves here feels increasingly rare, a return to a form of cinema that prioritizes emotion, interpretation, and artistry over marketability and revenue. His homage to the silent film era isn't just stylistic, it’s symbolic. The Fall reminds us of a time when films were made to provoke thought, inspire wonder, and invite personal reflection, not just fill seats or sell merchandise.
In a world increasingly driven by metrics and algorithms and profits, The Fall stands as an act of creative freedom. It’s not just a movie. It’s a reminder of what cinema can be, something we will hopefully get back to.
I can’t believe in all the time I’ve told people how much I love The Princess Bride no one had recommended this to me. This movie is now at the top of my list to recommend to others, also The Masked Bandit and Evelyn is my new couples Halloween costume goal. Again stunning visual creativity all around.
This is like if David Lynch and Wes Anderson co directed a fantasy movie I really don’t know how it gets much better than this.
