ken... is meeeee! parents just watched it and i insisted on watching the whole thing with them. felt oddly proud to be able to see their first experience. this made me even more emotional on a second viewing than it did the first. maybe because of watching it with someone as close and relatable as my mum. men deserve identities outside of toxic outdated concepts of masculinity. women deserve identities outside of men. we're all just looking to be adored. even the prettiest of people like ryan gosling and margot robbie can feel insecure and trapped in their own emotions. this film may talk about dolls but is the perfect exploration of the opposite - what it means to be human.
