Really a senseless, nonsensical story that has enough schmaltz to move me. Memorable viewing experience.

Tight, gripping, methodical. Bleak.

Ignore the rating. My rankings and ratings differ because I introduce new criterions to my assessment - investment, rewatchability, structure, intrigue, pacing etc, not entirely excluded from my reviews ofc but more consideration on superficial stuff.

Villeneuve at his most aesthetically satisfying, best worldbuilding etc etc, the rating is not a knock on the film but disappointment over the narrative, expect something more sophisticated and less meandering from a film of this calibre and intended to be a blockbuster. Tron: Legacy an objectively worse film does something similar but ultimately wins me over where this one doesn't because it surprised me. This played it too safe story-wise and doesn't explore the rich world enough.

Not as impressive in every aspect as I'd hoped. Consistently impressive cinematography as usual.
