Back to the Future
Perhaps best described as analogous to huffing nitrous oxide for 2 hours. The cinematic equivalent of laughing gas. It’s interesting to note what aspects of Zemeckis’ filmmaking and the screenplay have been influential enough to be solidified as sci-fi/blockbuster tropes, while also observing the film’s many quirks and eccentricities.
A 5-star movie I suppose but I lack the emotional connection or nostalgia of living through either time period or the exposure to the Back to the Future franchise in my most formative years to truly appreciate it enough to become a favourite. Of course I’ve caught re-runs on television growing up, but like, I never took it seriously enough to pay any real attention to it. Part of me is sort of sad that this isn’t a significant chapter in my childhood discovery of Amblin and Spielberg, the quintessential family movies, but ya know it is what it is.
