The Master
I mean... how do I even try to sum it up?
For starters, I was lucky enough to watch this on 70mm at the Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood, and it looked phenomenal. The sound and picture quality were superb, and I could not have been more happy with the presentation of the movie.
Now, on to the movie itself. It's a masterpiece (haha very funny), in just about every way. I can't think of a single thing wrong with this movie. The acting, is BEYOND fantastic. Everyone is amazing, but Phillip Seymour Hoffman and Joaquin Phoenix deliver some of the greatest performances of all time. Their mannerisms, speaking patterns, posture, expressions, and anything else that counts towards a great performance is fantastic. Other standouts are Amy Adams and Rami Malek, although the screen is just absolutely stolen when either of the two leads are on it. The score was at once captivating and hypnotic, which is even more perfect considering some of the movie's themes. The cinematography is BEAUTIFUL, containing some of the most stunning shots in all of cinematic history and dragging you into the film in new and interesting ways at certain points. The way that light is manipulated in order to give certain scenes a particular look makes the film feel so sharp and alive, which actually ties into some dialogue, now that I think of it. I don't want to talk about the themes too much for fear of spoiling the experience, but this is absolutely a film worth seeing.
TL;DR - 3/10, not enough boobs
