Scream
My favorite slasher to date. Scream seemed to start a new branch of slasher as it combined some comedy (cutting to ghostface in the bushes right before the party had me dead) with some serious discomfort. The opening 15 minutes was one of the best scenes I've seen in horror, and I couldn't believe theyd kill Drew Barrymore within 10 minutes. I loved how Craven also added his critique of the horror genre within the film as he made fun of horror stereotypes. Ghostface was an efficent slasher as he could gut Steve in less than 5 seconds, yet when it came to Neve Campbell, ghostface got bodied. In every single chase scene Cambell was smacking ghostface around like it was nothing. She was knocking him out with doors, kicks, and pretty much anything. Ghostface seemed so unathletic and clumsy that I started rooting for him in the beginning. I almost felt bad that he was getting his butt kicked by Campbell when he was able to kill everyone else no problem. The big reveal at the end was pretty decent yet Shaggy (Matthew Lillard) just made me uncomfortable. Actually now that I think about it he made me uncomfortable the whole movie. Anyway Scream was a super fun movie and I would totally recommend it to any fan of a slasher movies.
