fav movie of all time. the way cannibalism is used for love metaphor as well as addiction and generational trauma is just sooo perfect. maren was born like this, she dislikes the part that doesn't allow her to show or feel love without "violence". her mother had it too. its in their blood so she accepts it as a part of her. she runs from it many times whether its running from lee to protect others, or running from sully (who is the reason of the disgust maren feels with her love) to protect herself. when her and lee decide to "be people" they give up their cannibalism. it is representative for their "freedom" from their trauma, that they are their own kind of people and can be better. when sully comes back and ruins what they had, I feel its a metaphor for your traumas haunting your relationships. running away from problems will only get you so far. so cannibalism is a metaphor for intense love that cannot be properly expressed because of the lovers past. cannibalism is generational trauma. lee ate his own father. maren ate her own lover. even when they had nothing else left to give they gave their bodies but they weren't driven by lust. literally sobbing while writing this. its a movie that oddly comforts me, its so beautiful and I will forever stand for that. გთხოვთ შეშლილი არ გეგონოთ და ვინმემ გამიგეთ😊
