Babylon
This movie is one of few movies that I genuinely whole heartedly love. Everything from the cinematography and the score is near perfect. Everything, even little details feel so intentional and the amazing performances from every actor really tie everything together. The fast pacing and high energy of the first scene carry over into most of the movie which makes the 3 hour run time fly by, the few scenes that aren’t as fast paced have an uneasiness to them which adds a whole other layer to the story.
This movie is genuinely hilarious and silly in parts, so emotional and powerful in others and at times even unsettling and scary. I really do think this is an underrated masterpiece with some of my favourite scenes in cinematic history, especially with the Tobey Maguire scenes and that final scene in the theatre. I also love how the movie really makes it feel special when the main characters do actually crossover and interact with each other. This movie is genuinely so beautiful I love it so much, like this is the type of stuff that inspires me to want to create and share things the world.
It also has maybe my favourite joke in a movie ever (which is a fart joke).
Babylon was already in my top 10 movies of all time but I think after finally watching for a second time I can safely say it deserves a higher spot on my list. I wish there were 5 spots for favourite movies on Letterboxd accounts.
It is just Once Upon A Time… In Hollywood on crack though.
