About Time
One of the most exciting and refreshing elements of About Time is its prioritization of love outside of romantic partnerships, something most romcoms very often overlook. As much as About Time is about Mary and Tim’s romance, it’s equally about Tim’s relationships with his family and his friends. Life is indeed all about love but love is far too big a feeling to be compounded into a singular form of expression. It is universal. It is transcendent. It is immeasurable in its magnitude. Richard Curtis has perfected the art of romanticizing everyday life in a way that feels beautifully authentic and thought-provoking. It’s a film that is so easy to fall in love with, time and time again. It’s just full of heart, charm, and lovely dynamics that spark from Domhnall Gleeson’s character having the ability to travel through time. A gem of a film. Sincere, exuberant, optimistic, and radiant, which conveys a slice of life with doses of pain and humor. Occasionally it will go off track, but it always manages to stay the course towards a great conclusion.
