Blade Runner
(Final Cut)
When the replicants show more empathy than the men who created them, which one of them is more human? What do the insights of an android tell us about the meaning of existence? Blade Runner is simply a flawed masterpiece. A seminal achievement for sci-fi cinema. An ascension of melancholy, as pure as emotion can get. A meditation on life, loneliness & longing, identity, mortality, and what it really means to be human. Vangelis’ evocative, ambient score truly feels like a warm blanket. The sound of melancholy. Totally immersive. Beautifully complements what is probably one of the greatest environments ever made for a film. Never anything less than a wholly convincing illusion, so layered, fully detailed, and lived-in, feels like you’re actually there in this world— in the smoke, rain, and neon of this decaying city. A special one.
