Genuinely floored by this every single time. Beyond speechless. Beyond whole. Beyond satisfied. An ominous, moving, nostalgic, contemplative, deep, thought-provoking, and heart-wrenching summation of the human experience. So impactful, painful, and devastating. It’s so pensive and chilling, yet also extremely emotional and SO GODDAMN HUMAN. One of the most heartbreaking yet awe-inspiring narratives that I’ve ever seen in science fiction. Watched it for the first time three years ago thinking it would be a fun, big-scale alien invasion flick with Amy Adams, only to then walk away with one of the most profound, emotional, and thoughtful explorations of how language shapes memory, time, grief, relationships, and perception that I’ve ever witnessed. Special, special film.
