Sicario
“Nothing will make sense to your American ears. And you will doubt everything we do. But in time, you will understand.”
As a much younger person like 9-16, I always flirted with the idea of being a CIA/FBI/DoD operative in my mind. Because of all the movies I’ve seen where they are doing “cool” shit. It hadn’t penetrated my mind to think about the circumstances that led to the cool shit. About the USA’s involvement in the deconstruction or destabilization of a foreign place. Or even having to deal with hypothetical backlash within its borders. And I had seen this movie at the right time when I could start seeing how America or Americans are actively involved in the very evil the nation says it wants to displace. Now my eyes are so wide open that I can’t believe I fell for that propaganda. Denis’ take on the “cool” shit is just another reminder that I’m glad I didn’t actually try to do it. Because America is not always the good guys.
Also, movies really used to have Daniel Kaluuya.
