2046
Holds up even better on a rewatch, and the fact that it was raining outside made the experience even better.
There are a lot of themes surrounding this movie, but the one i love and can relate to the most is the concept of clinging to a past that isn’t there anymore, in 2046, nothing ever changes, and if i could get the chance to go there, i’d be hard for me to get away.
We use fiction to escape from our daily realities, broken hearts, unfulfilled dreams, things that eat us from the inside, and sometimes, that bleeds onto our little fantasy world, that’s the reason i love art and storytelling so much, it allows us to express what we couldn’t in any other way, in the most beautiful and tragic ways possible.
So yeah, i absolutely love this film, it feels like blending into a memory that’s already gone, something that’ll never be the same, because no matter how hard you try, 2046 will always stay with you. After all, as Mr Wong Kar-Wai says, all memories are traces of tears, and, well, for me this film represents the deepest one of them all, i’ll just leave it at that.
