Possession
“i’m the maker of my own evil”This might as well be one of the most fascinating and profound explorations of human nature i’ve ever seen, and coming from a horror movie makes it even more nuanced than it already is. The way it plays with sanity and insanity, good and evil, right or wrong, makes your even wonder what the basis for your own morality is. where you there when people needed you? did you take their feelings into consideration, are you a bad person? none of this is truly answered in this film, at least not in a direct way, however the fact that you can resonate with this characters in such a deep way makes you understand that this is more than just a horror movie, this is real life, and you might as well be Mark or Anna for someone in your own life, which for me it’s ten times more terrifying than whatever monster or demon you put on screen.
As long as for the supernatural part, this actually made me feel uneasy in a way i can’t even explain with words, i was actually horrified, like the movie itself was cursed or possessed, like i was watching something i shouldn’t, and especially on that third act, when it all goes truly down hill, you just roll on a spiral of insanity that you are no longer in control of. I could waste your time trying to explain the monster or what it represents, but to be honest the simple dread and ambiguity of it all was enough for me to understand that, beyond the creature and the overwhelming feeling of uneasiness ,to it’s core, this is a movie about a failed relationship, and how both parts react to that traumatic event, in ways that i definitely did not expect, but that either way made me feel everything , in the most gruesome and disgusting ways possible.
