sangat subjektif:::::::::: gue ingin memulai dengan mengucapkan bahwa ini relatable bagi gue jadi opini gue SANGATTT distorted. menurut gue plot-wise udah oke dan gampang untuk ditonton, gampang dimengerti. untuk film lebaran, ini udah cukup umum buat semua umur sih? sepanjang film ada beberapa adegan komedi dan karakter yang ngebadut. menurut gue jokesnya garing dan repetitif, tapi bagi GP itu udah puncak komedi. performance oke aja. somehow dengan waktu yang padat mereka masih bisa usaha masukin pov/backstory semua karakter. satu hal yang gue notice banget dan gak suka adalah di bagian puncak resolusi konflik, tiba-tiba ada konflik lain yang muncul. itu placement scenenya gak enak aja karena orang abis nangis haru tiba tiba langsung berapi-api exactly 10 detik setelahnya dengan transisi ga rapi pula. ini subjektif dan biased banget tapi gue ga suka ini terlalu melibatkan laki-laki. jangan di anu anuin banget lah. ada satu plot twist laki yang anjing, ga dibutuhkan, dan sinetron parah. walau mungkin bisa ditebak. ngeliat karakter perempuan attached sama laki tuh konsep yang GILA aja di film yang bahas konflik keluarga. menurut gue ini film yang bagus dan menyentuh hati, apalagi karena ini relate banget di gueh yah…. dan lebih menyentuh lagi karena nonton sama mama haha… gue suka banget depiction of motherhood/mother-daughter relationship yang kompleks kayak gini, yang gue jarang liat di sinema indo walaupun selalu ada film baru tentang keluarga. i dont really care if people think the relationship feels forced/fake, because to me it’s the closest thing i could see my own mother-daughter relationship on screen. also ini random bgt tapi judul ini kureng cocok deh buat filmnya. it’s a catchphrase they use a lot tapi kurang memorable jujur….. menurut gue Mercusuar would go crazy too. idk senin harga naik bikin gue mikir kalo filmnya komedi bangettttt dan unserious. nanti lagi ah males

years passed and 20 rewatches later it’s still the GREATESTT

i miss wokenesia :( i never thought i would love this, especially because it’s joko anwar. but the first 5 minutes got me hooked. nicsap is a great narrator and soooo perfect for this role. my only thought for the entirety of the film was that: **this is so Jakarta! I love it! **maybe because i just grew up around here that i just couldn’t imagine this being filmed anywhere else. i wouldn’t even call this indonesian because it’s so uniquely jakarta! for some reason. the people, the conversations, the attitude, the personality. all are central to the life of jakartans! i just think the film is cute and warms my heart. maybe it’s the young nicsap, maybe i’m just easy to please. there’s not a single unfunny comedic scene that i remember, everything just goes so well. there are times where u kinda could guess which direction is this joke turning to, but most of the times you could never guess what the characters are gonna deal with lmaoo? it’s just fun and camp! this reminds me of tingning in a way i can just tell the crews are people who are passionate about films and filmmaking. you’re never gonna get this from a sinetron crew. back to my first statement about wokenesia, this film once again proved me how woke indonesia used to be. maybe i did not live through it, but the treatment of things considered “haram” was so different back then. you’re never gonna see some of these scenes again on your cinema. they just won’t do it. i like how the only annoying character of this film was an annoying dudebro who can’t stand women. overall enjoyable plot, pace, likeable characters. the only thing that piss me off is probably how naive joni was, but i just remind myself he’s probably gonna get a happy ending anyway so i just forget about it. also hate that dukun feature, feels out of place at some parts. but still OK, 5/5 for the vibes and enjoyment i got. probably never gonna rewatch again tho.

cronenberg has done it again. beautiful. another freak film done right. i really have been noticing that my love for his films relied on the fact that there’s really nothing big happening around but still so enjoyable. irons delivered a great performance of opposites twins and i was confused on why he didn’t get much nominations for it. truly amazing how we can see the clear differences between them when they’re together on one frame yet they only had person to act. also there’s so many symbolism that’s interesting to discuss, like the red bodysuit. the message in itself is soooo good. i also think about how it’s sooo right to make the main characters be gynecologists, because we can see their growth and how female anatomy has been their interest from the beginning, and how this information is so central to the whole film. i would condemn this movie for scamming women but it’s also ???? that despite everything those men still respect consent i guess. i’m loving this genre where a woman does nothing and men are suddenly crazy by her, the phone call scene was so genius. i think this is probably the best twins portrayal i’ve seen in media, especially the ones who are close CLOSE and always at proximity. you can see how the twins’ relationship have been toxic dependency from the start because their ass really was never apart from each other!!! since the beginning!!! and it’s funny-great that cronenberg doesn’t make them incest sibling-fucking either!!!!! he just shows us how dependency can be so mind-fucking and affect you as an individual, especially when people invalidate you. to think most of the things wouldn’t happen if maybe they went separate directions in life. lol. also the ending was somewhat unexpected to me. i really didn’t have anything in mind. but what i’m understanding is that despite their similarity and proximity, they are always **opposites**. it’s so good to see that being carried on til the end. we don’t see two people losing their minds, we see them taking turns at losing their minds. which is great because i don’t wanna see two junkies doing nothing.
