12 Angry Men
“We’re talking about someone’s life here. We can’t decide it in five minutes.”
12 Angry Men is as relevant now as it was when released. This stripped-down film takes a hard look at the logistical and moral implications of sentencing someone to death.
It’s brilliant in the way it presents characters that feel real and tangible while keeping the trial itself ambiguous. The audience is presented pieces of evidence in the jurors room, however biased, just like in a real case.
The camerawork and blocking is excellent especially considering the restraints of the production.
My takeaway is that sometimes it’s not about proving that something is correct, but rather about recognizing that it might not be wrong.
