Dune

Upon my third rewatch I am still stunned. Dune has restored my faith in the modern blockbuster. I am a massive fan of the book and this is a brilliant adaptation. The score, cinematography, performances, and editing were palpable and encapsulating.  The discussions that Dune inspires about politics, religion, prophecy, blind obedience, and what it means to be human are unparalleled, which makes it unsurprising how Herbert’s novel has influenced much of the media we consume to this day. I feel that a few of the characters deserved to be fleshed out more; however, this does not end up taking away from the plot or the messages that Villeneuve/Herbert were trying to convey. Dune pays a triumphant homage to a brilliant piece of sci-fi literature that has stood the test of time, and that I believe will continue to be enjoyed and revered for generations to come. I cannot wait for Part 2.
