Titanic
Got to watch this in theatres and the cgi is a lot more noticeable on the big screen, especially in the large sweeping shots of the ship, where the characters look like they’ve come out of a late N64 game. Other than this small nitpick the movie is phenomenal.
I love the supporting cast of this movie, Kathy Bates’ character is a particular favourite of mine but there’s so so many interesting characters, Mr. Andrews, Murdoch, The Captain. It was one of the standouts of the film watching it again. The film’s really funny as well, in a way that doesn’t take you out of it’s world or the story being told, much more so than I remember.
The plot is also really creative, a romance between a poor man and an engaged woman that feels trapped in her upper class lifestyle. Everyone, including the women’s family and fiancée are all stuck on the ship until it lands in New York. The drama writes itself and I adore how simple and effective this plot device is.
The cinematography was also great, I really enjoyed the creative transitions between the past and present. My favourite scene has to be when the band plays, the shots of the different passengers accepting their fate matched with the music get me really emotional.
Finally, I can’t write a review of Titanic without mentioning its musical score. The main theme is used very sparingly in the first half of the film, making it hit all the harder when it does get used. The supplementary tracks are also really good and I specifically enjoy all the songs that the band plays as the Titanic is sinking.
Overall a fantastic film that deserves all its flowers
