Gladiator
There are some dated effects (those fucking CGI birds), but that's expected from a 25 year old movie, and some the the editing choices were questionable, but Gladiator holds up amazingly well. The character was perfect for Crowe's skill set and Phoenix is perfect (as always). The story is universally accessible and well paced for a two and a half hour movie. The only thing stopping me from giving this five stars is the editing. The fight choreography was okay, but they overused slow motion to try and hide how clunky it could be. The slow motion overall was very distracting and made me think there was something wrong with my internet connection because it didn't kick in in places where it made tonal or stylistic sense. Scott's depiction of the afterlife looks like a barren hellscape, which is also a weird choice. The movie making is all great, but the director and editor made some choices that really don't jive with everything else (the score also didn't always match the scene either).
