Before Sunrise
I have a nasty habit of giving damn near every movie I watch a 10/10, and I don't really know what it is. Movies like this, you know, Dead Poets Society or Perks of Being a Wallflower, speak to me deeply. Maybe it's the loneliness, maybe it's the love, but I think some of the beauty comes from the mundaneness of the story, the semi-reality of love, and the small pauses and the love and the hate. Something about movies like these speaks to me on such a deep level; it feels as if it is touching my soul, or something, I forget that there are actors in this movie. The acting is so realistic that I just accept that these are real people living one day together, and this is how it goes. Another reason I could love these movies so much is that I am a hopeless romantic who has never truly dated, and to see such beautiful, call me a fool, but what seems to me perhaps a true romance, is beautiful and gives me hope. This movie especially might be my new favorite, and I know that some of it is recency bias, I'm sure, but gosh, the lonely town in the night and the languages being spoken that you don't understand, and the beauty and majesty of it all, it feels as if what I feel cannot be put into words. To me, this is what movies are about, this is what art is about: making you feel something, losing yourself in the story.
