Lost in Translation
Oh Sofia Coppola how I love you and this movie.
I do want to say, one negative first... It is how the film treats the Japanese people, I get that the characters don't communicate with them because they don't know the language, therefore they get lonely, but I feel like if you were that lonely you would start to learn the language. I also do feel like some of the jokes come off racist or at the least dated, it never feels mean to the peoples or the culture but it does seem intolerant.
Out with the negative, the film is just gorgeous. 35mm film was a great choice for this film, I cannot explain why, I just feel like it was, it could be the extra detail film has over digital. The composition of shots, the framing and just the overall direction and clear vision Coppola had for this film, both story and visually was perfect in my opinion.
The acting was also amazing, it feels more real then other performances I've seen.
I just love this film and Sofia Coppola's style.
