Babylon
I fucking love cinema.
It’s been so long since a movie has left such a strong impression in me. The exploration of Hollywood as a rising unregulated world is amazing.
The world has undeniably suffered an accelerated change in the last 100 years. Something never experienced before. Things like the crisis Brad Pitt’s character goes through are things that never happened before so it is unknown terrain and this same concept applies to most of the issues the characters go through.
The movie isn’t perfect, it is over 3 hours long yet the development of Manny and Nellie’s storylines during the second act feels weak and kind of unfinished by the end of the movie.
But goddamn Damien Chazelle, they really let you whatever you wanted this time. That ending was everything. Art strong and violent, the evolution of humanity reflected by movies, an explosion of feelings and thoughts that cannot be expressed using words yet I got the message loud and clear.
Damien Chazelle loves cinema. And it shows.
