Anora
You want me to be your little wifey?
Palm D'or winning Anora absolutely lives up to all the praise it’s recieved from Cannes and Tiff. Sean Baker maintains his signature style while widening the scope and story to really capture the wild and electric ride that this brilliant script takes you on. And while Baker is obviously known for his story of people on the sex industry, I think Anora stands out as it gives us a character study of a sex worker while on the job. From the amazing opening sequence to the breathtaking finale, Anora draws you in and never lets up, giving the audience more of an experience than a viewing, the 2+ hours really fly by with the first hour being one of my favorites ever. Then it’s a given that Mikey Madison is perfect here, she’s a certainty in the Best Actress race and right now seems to be the front runner, and I’d love seeing her accept that gold trophy! Mark E. as Ivan gives a fun performance that really allows him to let loose, he brings a bunch of comedy to the film and most if not all of his bits land. Watching in a theater really enhanced the experience, this is such a well made movie and I can’t wait to rewatch.
I love Anora 🩷
