After Hours
Thought this would be way darker than it ended up being, and the comedic tone definitely works in its favour. Could not have guessed what was going to happen next, the ending especially left me with my jaw on the floor. Really loved every scene where the amazing synth score kicks in.
You get Scorsese’s brilliant character work seen in his earlier films (Taxi Driver, The King of Comedy), while also seeing glimpses of the fun camera work seen in his flashier films to come in the next decade (GoodFellas, Casino). The perfect mix of these two aspects of his signature style, this may not be my favourite of Scorsese’s (ridiculously high bar), but maybe the one I’m most likely to rewatch in the future
