Camp Rock
camp rock is more than just a disney channel movie, it’s a living reminder of a time when all you needed was a good song and a big dream to believe anything was possible. rewatching it today feels like going back to my childhood, tv on, heart wide open, ready to sing along.
demi, still so young, was already proving she was born to be a pop star. the voice, the presence, the spark in her eyes, everything was already a promise of what would become one of the most talented artists of her generation. and even though the story is simple, it’s impossible not to get carried away by the excitement of camp, the unlikely friendships, and the moment mitchie finally finds her voice.
it’s also funny how, even with a “silly and childish” plot, it still manages to bring important themes like acceptance, never giving up on our dreams, and being proud of our story, and how you can only truly see this with maturity. when we watched it as kids, it was just another movie where we obsessed over the main couple, memorized the songs, or wanted the characters’ clothes and style. but rewatching movies as adults that we were obsessed with as children lets us notice things we couldn’t before, and it gives us direct access to our inner child. our past and present will always shape our future. our actions, whether good or not so good, are part of our story, and there’s nothing more amazing than learning not to take yourself too seriously and not to be too hard on yourself, after all, nobody can take away your story. and “this is me” is the proof of that, it’s more than just a nostalgic teen anthem, it’s the certainty that we need to be who we are and take the place we’ve always dreamed of, even if it often feels impossible and people doubt us. like the song says, “now i’ve found who i am, there’s no way to hold it in, no more hiding who i wanna be… this is me”.
in the end, camp rock isn’t just a movie, it’s a little piece of teenage years kept close to the heart, wrapped in choruses that never leave your head and that warm feeling of believing the stage could be ours too. it makes me feel like i’m a kid again.
