Bound

My favorite watch so far of my pride 2021 watchlist!! The romance feels so affirming and not out of place or exploitative. I rooted for both of the lesbians which is awesome because often in these types of movies one would have turned on the other, but their loyalty to each other never came into question here. Violet and Corky are ride or die!! It’s also just cool to see an enthralling violent crime thriller with main characters who are queer, like the Wachowski sisters inserted us into this genre where we’re told we don’t belong because we’re never represented in these kinds of films. But it works amazingly in Bound, proving that we deserve to be in more cool movies like this!  After all of the these pride month watches it feels like most of them are either tragic or semi-hopeful romance movies which gets awfully repetitive. Even in 2021, Bound feels like a breath of fresh air compared to what so many queer films are. I hope future filmmakers make more creative things like this!! We need more than just queer romance movies, I want to see my queer people in crime/thrillers, sci fi dystopias, horror movies, etc etc etc. Bound did that for me and I am so grateful. pride 2021 watchlist (6/25) chain reaction challenge (30/100)
