Notting Hill
I might be a little biased towards rom coms but this is one of my favorites, this was probably my 5th rewatch in 2 and a half years since i first saw it
The pacing was good, i didn’t feel as if it were rushed or too short and the chemistry between anna and william felt real; “i’m just a girl, standing in front of a boy asking him to love her” is iconic while she is doing her famous “cryle” the tension when william was just standing there couldn’t be faked. The comedic aspect of the movie was really enjoyable, like the customers at the travel book store, Hugh grant saying da vinci, and the fancy a f*ck shirt, or horse and hound are all great
The supporting cast feels like a family and their connection throughout is authentic and real and feels very close knit. They all go through real struggles and some scenes really connect you with them, like when bella says they can’t have children and they all speak about how pathetic they are, but at the end they laugh and it just shows you have to appreciate what you have in life.
I liked the soundtrack, especially the how can you mend a broken heart scene, as well as the very iconic scene of william walking through the streets as the seasons are changing with ain’t no sunshine, and she in the final and beginning credits.
The only real criticism i have is how William always keeps coming back no matter what anna does, which is not too realistic and shows he lacks a bit of self respect but you could argue she makes up for it so it’s 50/50 for me
All in all, a great movie, good score, great supporting cast, and two leads that are iconic rom com figures.
