Stalker
Watching this at 1am and slightly sleep-deprived. Weirdly it added to the experience.
There’s no other way of putting it - this film is a masterpiece. Both engaging and exhausting.
Whilst a rewatch is needed to grasp the deeper meanings and musings of Tarkovsky himself - for me at least - I still found myself developing a somewhat concrete understanding of the themes and concepts at hand.
A particular standout moment for me was the hard cut into the blue of the Zone. It was so jarring and sudden, but a moment that stuck with me for the rest of the film.
I’ve never seen a director be so patient with a scene. Tarkovsky lets shots and sequences breathe in a way that I’ve never seen any filmmaker do before.
This film felt less entertaining and more immersing, hypnotic, and absorbing.
Andrei Tarkovsky… You too have my attention.
