[REC]
[REC] found footage aspect really well, is a good example of how camera work can ‘make’ a film and displays a lot of the formal qualities that make [REC] so immersive and such an effective found footage film, The camerawork is extremely shaky which adds to the chaotic and frightening feel. The fact that you see what the camera sees as it jolts around, leaves the viewer on edge as the feeling of ‘being there’ is intensified. The panicked and jerky movement of the camera shows the feelings of the characters in the scene and shows very well the terror they are experiencing. The natural lighting throughout with minimal light feels authentic and leaves menacing shadows on the viewer’s peripheral vision with the lens flares in the scene would not be seen in a highly polished and edited film, so this again adds to the realism, leading the viewer further into the experience of the characters. Not to mention the amazing sound in a way that enhances the atmosphere, when they are attacked, there are periods of muffled sound as they are grappling with their attackers and trying to escape. Just horror classic!
