Sinners
somewhat spoilers ahead?? idk not too explicit
what the fuck I wasn't expecting myself to cry all throughout the last half
it's devastatingly haunting and chilling and I'd call it more of a psychological thriller than a horror because it made me so sad (and I typically get scared so easily with horror).
themes of religion, discrimination and colonisation, and folklore intertwined so beautifully. I cannot fully understand the experience but from my own experience, when the religion that was said to save you doesn't, it's bound to leave you no choice.
amazing performances, my personal favourite being by Wunmi Mosaku. the dance scene imo is what captured me fully through the end. I love how music was a central theme, in fact one of the lines I loved was> Blues wasn’t put on us like that religion. We brought this with us from home.reminded me a lot of the premise that god loves you, but not enough to save you.
