“We see a deadly sins on every street corner, in every home, and we tolerate it. We tolerate it because it’s common, it’s trivial. We tolerate it day and night, well not anymore”
Wow… I cannot believe it took me this long to watch se7en but it’s worth every bit of praise it’s gotten over the years. I loved the concept of the 7 deadly sins as a kid, I thought the imagery and ideas behind it were intriguing, which in turn led me to become fairly fascinated with books such as Dante’s inferno. If I had known this movie was about killings revolving around these sins, I would’ve watched this in my week 1 on letterboxd. With my fascinations out of the way, you can imagine how hard this movie hit for me, every moment there’s was no drop in emotion or dread for what will come next, it was 2 hours of pure enjoyment and a level of locked in I haven’t reached before in film. The scenes in this movie will probably never not be in my top scenes of all time. The hallway shot literally made my heart jump, the interrogation room camera shifts and raw talent, and of course the final 20 minutes are just the icing on the cake for this masterpiece. I am emotionally and spiritually awoken when it comes to movies thanks to this. I also love when he says “there are two more murders” he is talking about himself and detective mills wife, which just blew my freaking mind when it was playing out.
I will be rewatching many times throughout my life, and showing my kids this movie. Wow.
