Safety Last!
Day 4, movie 5/100 of the summer film challenge
This is the most typical silent film you’ll ever see: it has police chasing scenes, physical humor and ofcourse a touch of romance. And sometimes a silent film like that is all you need to make your evening, which is exactly what this film did.
Not did I only enjoy It, I found it to be extremely ahead of It’s time and fantastically made. The first that I noticed what I really liked Is how each scene is so filled with life. The director really put thought into the smallest details like the background, in this the case city to make it look so alive. A really great detail that makes the film feel way realer.
But the greatest skill of this film lays in its direction during the climbing scene. Everything that needs to be said about it is already said but I nonetheless want to mention It. It’s so impressive to think about the fact this was made in the early 20s. It looked extremely real which made It really tensioned, which I didn’t expect would happen. I do think there was not enough variety within the shots, so after 10 minutes of him hanging at a tower it started feeling like a drag.
Furthermore it’s a great story, great acting and fun to watch. Films like these always do good:)
